Objective: To ensure “Housing for All” by the year 2022 (now extended in some areas) by providing affordable housing to the urban and rural poor.
🔹 Two Components

PMAY–Urban (PMAY-U)

For urban poor, including slum dwellers, low-income groups (LIG), and economically weaker sections (EWS)

Implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs

PMAY–Gramin (PMAY-G)

For rural poor households without proper housing

🔹 Key Features of PMAY

| Size of House | Minimum 25 sq. m. (for rural) or as per local norms |
| Ownership Priority | Priority given to female ownership or joint ownership with a woman |
| Eco-friendly Houses | Encourages use of eco-friendly, sustainable building materials |
| Technology | Promotes modern construction techniques and fast-track approvals |
🔹 Eligibility Criteria
✅ For PMAY–Urban (CLSS):

Must not own a pucca house in any part of India

Annual household income:

EWS: Up to ₹3 lakh

LIG: ₹3–6 lakh

MIG-I: ₹6–12 lakh

MIG-II: ₹12–18 lakh

Must not have availed benefits from any other housing scheme

Women ownership or co-ownership is mandatory for EWS and LIG categories
✅ For PMAY–Gramin:

Must be a rural household without a pucca home

Identified through Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data

Priority to SC/ST, widows, disabled, and landless laborers
